From the Conception of an Idea to the Grant of a Patent
Sections Completed or Currently Being Drafted:
At perhaps almost any time during the operation of a
business, an employee, contractor, manager, sole proprietor, et cetera
may conceive an idea and then consider whether to apply for a patent to protect
the idea. In this primer, I discuss some of the many considerations to make while trying to obtain the patent and the
stages of the process. I endeavor to
advise both the patent novice and the seasoned inventor/technical
officer/patent holder. Nonetheless, no
single article can address all the myriad nuances of this long and often
complicated process.
This primer is a work in progress. I posted the first part when I completed the first part, and I post subsequent parts when I complete them. From time to time I revise earlier postings.
As for the first section after this introduction: if you have conceived of an idea and you are considering applying for a patent, you should consider at an early stage whether your protection might be more effective if it were to take the form of a trade secret.
